This ad has a lot going for it. Since it was posted in that large spread in the magazine, it definitely catches the eye, and being in a magazine, meaning someone had to purchase it, it's targeted at not kids, but those with the money. It's targeted at parents who could buy their kids Lego sets. The way it is presented, with its size and the amount of BRIGHT RED in the ad (Red invokes desire in consumers, according to color theory. That is why it is used in food ads often.) and the comedy of the situation depicted (Han Solo being snubbed for an Ewok by Leia) make for an eye-catching, entertaining ad. It is also very minimal, with the huge amount of empty space showing off the bright red background and driving the focus on the three minifigs in the scene. This entertainment aspect raises the value and appeal of the Lego brand in the eyes of the viewer, and thus makes them more likely to buy Lego sets for their children. I can see the same ad taking place in something like a commercial, due to it's minimal design and focus on visuals for telling it's tiny story instead of a reliance on other means.
